Service Day Thank you!

Thank you so much to Mrs. Shao, Mrs. Elgersma, Mrs. Aarts, Mrs. Garriott, Mrs. Van Santen and Corporal Ristau for coming and helping us on our Service Day drain- marking adventure.  The rain held off, the students worked hard, and we learned so much about keeping our drain water clean for the fish.  If you have any photos of our adventure together, I would love to add them to my photo collection.  Could you email them to me?

Here are a few photos of our adventure together:

When we got back to the classroom some of the students decided to draw and write about their experience.  Here is what they learned:

“Don’t let the people put paint in”

An illustrated look at a house complete with pipes and sewer!

“Don’t put paint inside”

Monday Morning Book Look

As part of our reading program I would like to add a fun opportunity to our classroom.  Starting in May, our Mondays will begin with a Monday Morning Book Look.  You are invited to stay with your child for the first 15-20 minutes of class and read together.  If you are able to join us, we look forward to having you, and it would be my hope that children who do not have a parent who is able to stay be invited to join in a group with a parent who is able to remain for this fun reading time.  Younger siblings are welcome to stay and read with us too!

Service Day reminder

Good morning everyone!

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday April 19, is our service day.  We will be working in our school neighborhood and I am recommending students wear play clothes and comfortable shoes for walking in.  If you have signed up to help, please arrive promptly on time, at our classroom door for no later than 10 am.  We will be heading over to our grade 6 buddies’ classroom as closely to 10 am as we can for instructions and to gather in our groups.

Grandparent’s Day!

Highroad Academy is pleased to present our 3rd Annual Grandparent’s Day on April 27 from 1-3 pm.  The children are coming home today with an invitation to pass on to their grandparents for this special day.  We understand that some children have grandparents who live in places too far away to attend and so we would ask that you think of someone else who holds a special place in your child’s heart, it could be a neighbor, an aunt, a friend from church, if your child doesn’t have a grandparents available.  We would love to see each child have someone special to share this day with.

The afternoon includes a tea, performances from the primary classes, and classroom visits.  This is a kindergarten to grade 3 event.

If you need additional invitations I have some available in my classroom.  Feel free to send me a message requesting additional copies and I will send them home as soon as possible.

Service Day- Wednesday April 19- we need your help!

Next Wednesday, April 19, each class from grades k-6 has the opportunity to go and serve in our community.  For the second year in a row, our kindie class will join with our grade six buddies to walk into our neighborhood and paint yellow fish next to storm drains.  This is such a fun and meaningful activity for our students.  It also ties really well into Earth Day which is also approaching quickly.  This great activity can only happen with parent chaperones.  Can you help?

We would need you to supervise a group of students (both grades 6 and kindies), and keep them safe as they walk in our neighborhood.  A permission slip is going home today, and there is a place on it for you to indicate your ability to help.

We would need you from approximately 10:15 until noon.  Please let me know if you can help!  Thank you!

Kilby Field Trip Tomorrow!

Hi Parents,

A few reminders about our exciting morning out tomorrow!

Departure:  We will be leaving right away in the morning.  Please remind your child to keep his/her coat on and to make sure they have a snack to bring with them in a coat pocket.  Water bottles, with names on them, should be brought into the classroom with the children when the bell rings.

Washroom:  Please encourage your child to visit the washroom before the bell rings in order to facilitate a prompt departure.

Dress:  This will be a non-uniform day.  Please ensure your child is prepared for the weather (it looks wet!)  Rain boots and jackets are recommended!

Thanks so much!  I am looking forward to our adventure together.  Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Oviparous or not oviparous?

Today, as part of our farm unit we learned about chickens and eggs and we discussed what it means if an animal is oviparous.  Do you know what that word means?  Your kindergartener should!  Ask them 🙂
