Kindie Korner Adventures

Merry Christmas!!

Mrs. Loeppky and I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! May you enjoy time with family and friends and create new and wonderful memories together this holiday season.

Thank you for the outpouring of blessings on us this week. We have been utterly spoiled. Each card, hug, word of thanks and more has meant so much to us.

I hope you all enjoyed our Christmas Concert today. To say that I was proud of our little angels would be an understatement. They were amazing!

Blessings to all of you!!

Reminders for this week and kindie update

Well, this is it!  The last week of school before Christmas break.  There is so much going on, I thought I should take a minute to remind you of some important things:

Wednesday- our food drive ends!  Please send in any last minute donations in the morning.  The trucks will be picking up before lunch so our donations need to be in and counted in the morning.  Let’s bless the people in our community in this tangible way.

Thursday- it’s our Christmas Concert at 1 pm.  We have been working SO hard and all of the kindies are doing such an amazing job memorizing their poem.  Thank you for all your hard work at home.  We will continue to review in class right up until concert time.  I would recommend coming early on Thursday to secure a seat for the show.  It’s usually very full in the gym!  Students are to wear white shirts and any pants they would like.  They will have white angel gowns to wear on top.  Students will be dismissed after the concert for Christmas vacation.  We anticipate the end of the concert to be at approximately 2 pm.

Lockers- please take a minute some time this week to look through your child’s locker and help keep it clean.  I would also recommend taking home pillows over the Christmas break and giving them a good wash!

Merry “almost” Christmas!!

Food Drive Update!

Thank you everyone for all of the donations that have been brought in for the food bank!  We are on our way to reaching out school goal.  Please consider sending along something if you haven’t already.  The children are excited to see our boxes filled.

Today our grade 7 partners came in and helped us count up our points and get to know us.  It was fun talking with them and sharing our totals.

Here’s to filling our next box!!

Our Busy, Amazing Week!

We have been so busy this week and have had so much fun learning in kindergarten.  Here is some of what we have been up to:

Centres- we have new centres to play at!  The cardboard gingerbread houses and candy construction set have been a big hit!  The Gingerbread Bakery has been full of great cookies and wonderful customers.

Yesterday we spent some time stretching our STEM skills and our creative thinking.  Our Gingerbread Man theme continued and we got the opportunity to try to create a bridge or a boat to help the gingerbread man cross the river without getting wet.  We also had the chance to create a trap for the gingerbread man.  I was so proud of each of the children for showing such creativity and perseverance.  We had a number of children create a plan, attempt their plan, and then change their plan because things just weren’t going the way they had hoped.  There was a lot of flexible thinking and NO TEARS!

Yesterday we also had a special guest PE teacher… or should I say, teachers?  The grade 10 Inquiry Class created a PE lesson for us and we got to try the different activities they set up in the gym for us.  It was so heart-warming to see our students building relationships with each other!

And today…

HUGE thanks to Kristina for the delicious gingerbread man cookies, to Brittany for the icing and to Shelby and Sarah for the cookie decorations.  We had so much fun today.  The strangest thing happened… our gingerbread cookies disappeared while we were reading a story and we had to hunt through the whole school to find them!  Thank you Tamara for helping us and for cleaning up after us!

Toilet paper rolls

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the late notice but if at all possible, we would like to collect enough empty toilet paper rolls so that each student has 4 or 5 to use in a craft for NEXT TUESDAY!  I know it’s really late notice, but if you could save as many as you can for us, and send them in over the next couple of days, we would really appreciate it!

Thanks so much!

Primary Christmas Concert Information

Our concert will be taking place on Thursday, December 21 at 1 pm.  Our kindergarten class will be angels this year!  They will have something provided for them to wear and will need to wear their white uniform shirts underneath.  If your child has light colored bottoms to wear as well, that would be great, but because we will have angel gowns on top of our clothes, I am not too worried about making sure we are all dressed alike.

The following is a little poem we will be saying.  Please help your child practice at home.  After our current memory verse is said this Friday, this poem will become our new focus for memorization until Christmas break.

We’re the little angels

Who filled the sky with light.

The shepherds, they were sleeping.

We gave them SUCH A FRIGHT!

We had a special meesage

For them from God above.

He sent a Saviour– A baby!

To show us all His love.

The Shepherds hurried off to see

The baby in the hay.

They worshiped Him and bowed their heads,

Just like we do today.

Grade 4-12 Christmas Concert

Hi Parents!

Everyone is welcome to join us on December 18 for the Grades 4-12 concert.  Please note the concert will begin at 6:30 pm.  There had been some discrepancies about the time, so I wanted to make sure that everyone knew the start time is set for 6:30.  Please make note of that, and feel free to come!  We know it is quite late for the kindies though, so please use your discretion.

Thank you!

I just wanted to take a moment to thank each of you who has purchased books through Scholastic so far this year. Your purchases enable me to get some new things for the classroom. Here is a little peek at what just came last week for the students to explore.

Food Drive

Our Food Drive has begun!  We are working together as a school to raise a total of 15, 000 points this year!  The following items have a 5 point value, all other items will be given 1 point.  The Salvation Army is asking that we not send Mr. Noodles packets as they crumble and fall apart too easily.

5 Point Items:

-tuna

-pasta

-canned lunches (aphaghetti, ravioli etc)

-peanut butter

-canned soup

-canned vegetables

-jam

-canned fruit

-chunky soup

-granola bars (3 points PER granola bar!)

-juice boxes (3 points PER juice box!)

Last Friday we had a visit from Mrs Robinson who works for Cyrus Centre and she told us that supporting the Food Drive helps hungry people in Chilliwack, through the Salvation Army and Cyrus Centre.  We can help feed people in our community by bringing in these items for the food bank.  Thanks for your help!

As an incentive for our students, if we are able to reach our goal, students will have a half day of school on our first Friday back in January!
