Family Fridays!

Starting on Friday, November 8 we would like to invite you to stay after the bell rings in the morning for Family Friday!  We will have a short time of reading together with you, our drop-off people, to start our day (approximately 15 minutes).  We hope that you can join us.  Unless you hear otherwise, you can anticipate every Friday being Family Friday, starting on November 8th.  I know some of you don’t have the ability to stay and so I would ask that we welcome children into our reading groups with open arms.  Thank you so much!

Parent Teacher Interview Day Information

I wanted to make sure to connect with you about the upcoming Parent Teacher Interview day on November 1.

This is essentially a more formal version of our September parent night where you have the opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers in regard to your student’s progress so far this year.

This Parent/Teacher Interview day replaces our report cards which were traditionally sent out at the beginning of December. As happened last year, students will not receive a report card until the end of January. Therefore, the parent teacher interview will be an important day to discuss progress, celebrate growth and consider goals for your child. We would love to see all our parents on this day!

On November 1, the school will be open from 10-4 for interviews. Here is some information on how this day will work:

1- Please email me to request a specific appointment time or use the sign-up sheet available near the door of our classroom to sign up for a time slot.

2 – Check in at the school foyer to get headed in the right direction! There will also be free coffee, treats, and school store items available for purchase.

3- Proceed to the room of the teacher you’d like to chat with about your child. Interviews are 15 minutes.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Reminder

Just a reminder that we are heading to the Pumpkin Patch at the Chilliwack Corn Maze on Monday, October 28.  We will be leaving the school at approximately 10:40 and will be leaving the patch to return to the school at 1 pm.  Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather (no uniform required for the day) and has adequate footwear for walking through potentially muddy places.

Parent- Teacher Interviews FAQ

Hi Parents!  It was asked of me today if students are expected to attend our Parent-Teacher conference and I thought some others may be wondering the same thing.  At this time our Kindergarten conferences will be with parents only.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

On Friday, November 1 the school will not be running regular classes, as the teaching staff will be available for parent-teacher interviews.  This is a great opportunity for us to connect and chat about who your child is, and how their learning journey is going so far.  I will have a sign up sheet on a clipboard outside of the classroom.  Please take a look at the times and select one that will work for you.  I am looking forward to meeting with you!

Picture Day Information

Our individual and class picture day is quickly approaching!  On October 22 we are having both photos taken.  As we have had some changes to our uniform policy please note the following instructions for picture day:

For picture day, students need to be in uniform, with a sweater, vest, or navy hoodie as well.

Thank you for remembering to send your child to school with their cardigan or navy hoodie (please note, this does not mean  the hoodie that is black with the red Highroad Academy lettering).

Jackets Please!

Calling all jackets!  As the weather has now shifted and rains seem to be in the forecast on a daily basis, please ensure your child comes to school with a jacket (preferably one with a hood) so they can stay dry if we go outside.  You might also like to send along rain boots as the bark mulch and playground area are getting quite soggy.

Soup’s On Tomorrow!

Tomorrow we will each be served a bowl of soup made by our Highroad High school students with vegetables from our very own Highroad Garden!  I would definitely suggest sending a regular lunch along for your child though, just in case they are still hungry, or they decide that it wasn’t their favorite thing (although last year’s soup was delicious and ALL the children in my class LOVED it!)
