Kindie Korner Adventures

Phonograms

Well, it may still only be September but we have been busy working on our phonograms in Kindergarten.  We have started by learning what we refer to as our “clock phonograms.”  These clock phonograms are the ones that all follow the same pattern of directionality when we are printing them, starting at the 2 on the clock on travelling from the 2, to the 1, to the 12 and so on, all the way around.  So far we have been learning the sounds and formation of o, a, c, d, g, and s.  We will be adding f and qu to our list in the coming days.  If you have phonogram cards at home and would like to practice with your child, please feel free to check out the back of the cards for directions on how to say the sounds.

Slight Change for Pick Ups

Beginning tomorrow, the Kindie classes will have a new spot.  It will be on the same side of the building but further down, closer the corner on the east side.

This will make it easier for us to stay together in our line as we come out of the school. Please look for us further down the curb, closer to the portables.

It is very important that I know that your child has been picked up by the correct person. Thank you so much for being patient as I make eye contact with you and dismiss your child by name.  If you ever have a different person picking up (a grandparent, auntie or uncle or friend) please be sure to let them know that your child will be dismissed by the teacher and not to just take them and leave.  Thank you so much for your help with this!

Student Drop Off

As the students are settling in to our Kindergarten routines, Mr. Hancock and Mr. Morris are looking to reduce the number of adults in the school building in the mornings.  We would like to move towards students coming into the school independently whenever possible.  Can you think about working with your child to be able to enter the school and find the classroom and their locker successfully on their own?

Thank you for your help!

Hi Parents

Mr. Morris has decided to postpone the parent zoom meeting until Thursday evening as there may be some additional information to share by then.  Sorry if this causes any confusion for any of you.

Memory Verse

Hi everyone!  Your child will be coming home with a memory verse early this week.  Please help your child practice this short little verse.  They will be asked to say it next Tuesday, September 29th.  We will usually get a new verse on Mondays and have one week to learn it, but since next Monday is a Professional Day, the children will have until Tuesday to learn their verse.

This week’s verse is:

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  Romans 3:23

Next Week- Full Days!

We have been doing so well catching on to the routines of Kindergarten so far.  Next week we start full days of school and there are so many more things for us to do and learn.  We will be going to Library and Music and also eating lunch at school as well as having rest time together.  Here are some things you might need to know for a successful first week of full days:

  1. Pillow- your child should have their pillow at school by Monday so that it is ready for rest time which we will have every day after lunch.
  2. Lunch- we will be eating lunch at school.  There are no food allergies listed for our class – YAY!  Please continue to be thoughtful about how much help your child will need opening food items.  During eating time, it’s just me in here with the students and if we have spills I need to go get a mop, clean up, as well as help students with things.  It can get a bit crazy at times!
  3. Gym Shoes- if your child hasn’t already brought their gym shoes to school, please ensure they do on Monday.
  4. TERRY FOX- We will be collecting Toonies for Terry (Terry Fox Run fundraiser) all week next week.  Please consider sending in a toonie for cancer research.  We will be having a short lesson on Terry Fox and doing a bit of running in the gym together.
  5. Pick Up- Kindie students will continue to be picked up at the same spot outside but pick up will be at 2:55.  Please continue to be prompt and patient.  The parking lot will be significantly busier at the end of the day than at noon pick up.  I will do my best to dismiss your child to you quickly, but it can be very overwhelming to try to remember who belongs with whom at this point in the year, so please be patient with me as I figure it out.  Thank you!
  6. Weather- the forecast is for rain next week- children will most likely be going out to play even though it is rainy.  Please send them with appropriate clothing.

I think that’s all I need to remind you of right now.  Thank you so much for your help getting the year off to a great start!

Water Bottles

Hi everyone!

Just a reminder that water bottles should be coming to school.  None of the water fountains are working here at school due to COVID.

Also, please send a reusable water bottle.  The screw top disposable water bottles are frequently falling over and spilling requiring wet clean ups.

Thank you so much!

Dressing For the Weather

Hi everyone!

As we move into the fall season and what can often be more unpredictable and inclement weather, we ask that you would do your best to help your child be prepared for the possibility of rain.  Children benefit from playing outside for a variety of reasons (when the air isn’t so smokey) and we will be going outside for recess and lunch playtimes even in the rain.  Please be forward-thinking and send jackets with hoods on days when the weather could turn rainy, and consider sending rain boots for your child as well if things are looking really wet.

Thank you so much!
