Kindie Korner Adventures

Little Rocks

Hi Everyone!

Could you do me a favor?  We are reading a special story tomorrow and it would be great if each kiddo had a rock that they could use for a follow-up activity.  If you have time this afternoon to get out in the sunshine and find some small rocks (about the size of a loonie) to bring to school that would be great!  If you happen to find a few extra that you wouldn’t mind sending along for some other classmates too, that would be great.  I do have some, but if we have some extras, the children will have more to choose from.

Thanks!

EVERY child matters

Our day started off with the children talking about why we were wearing orange shirts today.  We had a gentle conversation and talked about how, while we can’t change things from the past, we can choose to do better.  May each child know that THEY matter.

Orange Shirt Week

In light of the devastating information coming out of Kamloops at the end of last week, HRA is inviting students to wear orange shirts in recognition of the lives lost.  I will leave it up to you as parents to fill in any questions your child may have for you at home about this, and want to reassure you that, if I am asked at school, will do my best to answer in age-appropriate, gentle ways.

Please check your emails for more information from Mr. Morris about this.

Important June Information

Here are some important things to note for June.  Unfortunately due to COVID and the implications it has had on our school community in recent weeks, there have been some changes to what we have routinely done in past years.  At this time, there is no plan for a formal Kindergarten graduation, but Mrs Morris and I will be planning some fun activities for the children to participate in as they conclude their time with us this year.

June 2- ALL LIBRARY BOOKS DUE TO THE LIBRARY

June 8- ALL HOME READING BOOKS AND SIGHT WORDS DUE BACK TO THE CLASSROOM

June 16- fun day morning. last day of Kindergarten

June 17- Kindergarten orientation for new Kindergarten families

June 18- half day for the rest of the students at HRA

We have finished our memory verses for the year.  Thank you to those of you who worked diligently with your children in this area.

I am having a hard time believing we are coming to the end of our time together.  We have become a wonderful little family and each of your kiddos has a special place in my heart.  It will be hard to say goodbye to them!

End of the Year Information for You

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

It’s that time of year where we start thinking about the end of school and the beginning of the summer break. Even though we still have approximately 4 weeks till the end of the year, we wanted to let you know about some year-end information for your calendars.

While our Grades 1-6 classes will have their last day of school on June 18th, the Kindergarten’s last day will be June 16. There are a couple of reasons for this difference in dates. First of all, we want the kindergarten’s in both the part-time and full-time to be able to end together on the same day. Also, ending on June 16th will allow time for the kindergarten teachers to begin Kindergarten Orientations with the incoming parents of next year’s class.

We have so enjoyed having your children this year and it has given us great pleasure seeing them grow in so many ways over the course of the year. We can hardly believe that we are already at this point of the year preparing to see them off towards new adventures.

The Next Couple of Weeks

As we work through these recent challenges, there are several ways that you, as parents, can help us out! First of all, we would like to continue to strongly encourage you to drop-off as close to the 8:45 time as possible. For after school, students need to be picked up before 3:15 at the very latest so we can minimize the congregating of parents and students on the school property.

If you are feeling uncomfortable with having your child at school or your child is feeling ill, and you are keeping your child home please let the office and myself know so that we can plan accordingly. In this blog post, you will find activities that you can do with your child at home that are based on the activities happening at school.

You will be able to find explanation videos of a number of the following ideas posted on Freshgrade over the next day or two.  I realize you won’t have the recording sheets for some of the activities, but I trust that you will be able to find some paper at home to work with.

Math

Counting Collections (See video uploaded to Freshgrade)- students have done this activity many times in the classroom

Patterns- students can use items from around the house to create repeating patterns (Sock, shoe, sock, shoe/ or sock, shoe, shoe, sock, shoe, shoe… etc)

Practice skip counting by 5s with the video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amxVL9KUmq8

Language Arts

Writer’s Workshop (See video uploaded to Freshgrade)- students have done this many times in the classroom

Story Workshop (See 2 videos uploaded to Freshgrade)- students have done this many times in the classroom

We have been learning about plants and insects- draw a picture of a plant and label the important parts (flower, leaf, stem, roots)

-draw an insect- make sure it includes 3 body parts (head, thorax, abdomen), 6 legs, 2 antennae

Uniforms tomorrow please

Originally we were going to be doing some “Spring Sing” filming tomorrow and students were going to be able to dress accordingly. However, due to circumstances, we will not be filming tomorrow and students are being asked to wear their uniforms instead.

Thank you!
