Hi Parents

Unfortunately Freshgrade Next is not able to tell me when their app will be ready to use.  They tell me it is high priority for them, but I am reluctant to wait much longer.  Instead, I will be reverting back to the Freshgrade Classic system that I used for the past 2 years and that they are continuing to support.  You will receive an invitation to this portfolio folder for your child, and THERE IS an app that you can add to your mobile device which should make accessing the portfolios easier.  At this point I am not sure if there is any way to easily transfer the pre-existing portfolios or not and I would ask for your patience as I try to figure this out.

I hope you enjoy seeing photos of your child and have so many to add now that we will have an easier system to use.

A few parents have asked about practicing phonograms at home and how to do that if you aren’t confident in the sounds and formation of the letters.  The above app may be just what you would like to use to help make this something easier to do at home.  Check it out and see if it might be useful for you and your kindergartner!

We have been working hard on learning how to print our numbers from 1-10.  Some of them are very tricky!  I sent home some papers this week that have the little formation poems on them that we say as we are printing our numbers.  Please take some time to help your child review the poems and see how they are progressing with their number printing.

Scholastic book order forms went home this week.  If you would like to order, please make sure your order comes in, or you place it online before October 9.

I have now introduced all of the following clock letters and we will be reviewing their sounds and formations in the next few days:

a, o, c, d, g, f, s, qu

Taking some time at home to practice forming these letters correctly with your child and reviewing their sounds would be very helpful.  Remember to start these letters where the 2 would be on a clock and travel counter-clockwise with your pencil to form them correctly.

We have been working so hard and are doing really well!  I am sure your child will be excited to show you all that they have been learning!

Just a reminder that Comfort Kits are due back to the school on October 2.  Please ensure that your child has one so that they have what they need here at school in case there is an emergency.

Monday, September 30 is Orange Shirt Day.  We will be talking about how every child matters throughout the primary department and would like to invite students to wear orange shirts and casual bottoms on this day.  If your child does not want to wear an orange shirt, they will need to wear their uniform.

On September 26 we will be remembering Terry Fox and his legacy. As part of this we are collecting Toonies for Terry for cancer research.  Please consider sending along a toonie with your child for this worthy cause.
