Here are a few important dates to keep in mind as we begin this exciting first month of Kindergarten:

Tuesday, September 10 – Picture Day- full uniform please 🙂

Monday, September 16 – Full Days begin (8:40 am – 2:45 pm)

Friday, September 20 – Terry Fox Run (more information to follow)

Friday, September 27 – Orange Shirt Day (more information to follow)

Monday, September 30 – Truth and Reconciliation Day (no school)

Both Terry Fox Day and Orange Shirt Day fall on Provincially set dates so part-time kindies will miss out; however, when possible, we do try to plan fun days for Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays so that all Kindies can participate.

Today the Kindies are coming home with a brand new Knight shirt!  These shirts are a gift from the school to your child.  Every Friday we have Knight Day and students are welcome to wear their Knight shirt and casual bottoms.  Please refer to the uniform policy on the website for specific information about pants and shorts that are acceptable.  If your child would prefer to wear their uniform, that is fine too.  Part time students will bring their shirts home on Monday.

It was so nice to meet you all this morning and begin our year together.  I am looking forward to getting to know your kiddos better as we spend time together in the weeks and months to come.

Here is a reminder about our gradual entry days:

From Sept 4- Sept 13 we will be doing half days of kindergarten.  This means that drop off will be at 8:35 and pick up will be at 11:30. Your child will need a water bottle and a snack for recess. Please remember we do a hand to hand transfer at the end of the day so you will need to come inside to pick up your child.

Sept 16 we will begin full days of kindergarten.  This means that drop off will be at 8:35 and our day will end at 2:45. Your child will need a water bottle, a recess snack and a lunch.

If your child is part time, they will only attend school Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (even on our half days).

Please plan to drop your child off tomorrow with confidence.  We are fully prepared for there to be some kiddos who have a hard time saying goodbye, but over the years we have noticed that the more confident you are, and the more quickly you are able to leave, the easier it is for the children to settle in.

Hello everyone!  Our first day of school is just around the corner and things at Highroad are buzzing.  We are working hard to be ready for you on Tuesday and are so looking forward to getting to see you.

Welcome to the blog!  I have taken the emails on file with MyEd and subscribed you so you SHOULD be getting notifications when I post something on here. There is always the possibility that a mistake has been made or that the notifications get sent to your junk folder.  Hopefully things will get ironed out quickly.

Just a few reminders as we look ahead to next week.  You and your kindergarten child have a one hour block to come and visit the classroom on Tuesday, Sept 3.  I believe a reminder was sent home about the time slot for your appointment, but if you didn’t get that reminder and you can’t recall when to come, please feel free to email me at dlarsson@highroadacademy.com and I can let you know.

The remainder of the week (and the week following) we will be doing half days of kindergarten with dismissal being at 11:30.

Just a few final reminders for you:

Tomorrow is our last day for Kindergarten this year.  It will be a full day of school.  Please consider sending an extra bag with your child so they can bring home their pillow, gym shoes etc.  Please take an extra peek in your child’s locker before you leave tomorrow afternoon to make sure they have everything.

We will be starting our day with our final Welcome Wednesday.  Please consider staying to read in the morning if you are able.  We will have a special something to end our time together and would love it if you could be there.

A few reminders about our field trip tomorrow.  We will be taking our lunches with us for a picnic.  Please keep this in mind when you are packing your child’s lunch.  Also, please be sure to send along a water bottle and ensure your child’s name is on their things.  Students are welcome to wear play clothes.

We will be leaving the school at 10:30 and we finish our time at gymnastics at 2 pm and will head back to the school at that time.

Looking forward to a fun time together!

This Friday is our Primary Fun Day.  Students are welcome to come to school wearing Knight wear or play clothes and shoes that make running and playing safe and easy. Please send your child with a water bottle and a recess snack.  Just a reminder that we will be dismissing for the day at 11:30.

On Monday afternoon we will be having a Teddy Bear Picnic!  Please be sure your child brings a stuffy (a teddy would be great, but we understand that sometimes we have other favorites).  It would be fantastic if your child’s stuffy had their name on it somewhere just in case they go on an adventure.  We will be picnicking in the garden with our stuffies for lunch so please make sure your child has a water bottle that they can bring with them.
