Scholastic Book Orders

I have sent home another scholastic book order form. I thought I would point out that there is at least one Pigeon book available this month, as well as an Elephant and Piggie book which is written by the same author. We have really been enjoying reading these in class so I thought I would mention them.

Order forms or online orders are due by April 11.

Grandparent’s Day Pick up

Hi everyone!

Grandparent’s Day is quickly approaching and the afternoon can be so fun, but rather busy!  In an effort to do my part to keep track of your children, I ask that you let me know via email or a quick note in your child’s back and forth folder if your child has permission to be dismissed with a grandparent that day.   I am also told if your child’s grandparent would like to take them from class a bit early, that would be acceptable.  Again, please just let me know if your child will be leaving school grounds with a grandparent that day.  Thank you!

Silent Auction Baskets

The week before spring break we were collecting $5 per elementary student to put together grade level baskets for our upcoming gala silent auction.  We thought it might be good to extend our collection of donations for this week as well.  If you are able to donate $5 to help us make a basket for the silent auction, your child can give the donation to their teacher or pay at the office.  Thank you!

Grandparent’s Day Poem

Instead of working on a memory verse this week, we will be working on memorizing our poem for Grandparent’s Day.  Could you help us by practicing at home?  We started learning this before Spring Break, but we haven’t been working on this for 2 weeks now, so we are a bit rusty!

Glasses

“Here are Grandma’s glasses,

Here is Grandma’s hat.

Here is how she folds her hands and puts them in her lap.

Here are Grandpa’s glasses,

Here is Grandpa’s hat.

Here is how he folds his hands and takes a little nap.”

So Many New Things!

With the arrival of April, comes the introduction to a number of new things in Full Time Kindie!  I hope this isn’t overload for you!

Spelling Words

Next week we will begin working on spelling words.  These will be introduced in class and worked on as a group.  There is no spelling test, rather we work on sounding out the words together, and begin to focus on printing the letters on the correct parts of the line.

Home Reading Program

There are two components to our home reading program:  reading books, and practicing popcorn words (Sight words).  Your child will come home on Wednesday with 2 or 3 books in a labelled ziploc, and a ring with some popcorn words on it.  Please take some time throughout the week to practice both reading AND the words on the ring.  Your child is asked to return their ziploc EVERY WEDNESDAY.  Your child will then be asked to read the popcorn words they know, and they will be invited to read one of their books to a teacher.  If your child can successfully read the book, they will be given new books for the week.  Similarly, if your child can read the popcorn words with confidence, more words will be added to the ring.  Please do your best to remember to send the home reading back each week.  Daily practice makes a HUGE difference in the growth your child will make as a reader, and a writer.

Pigeon

My friend Pigeon is excited to come and spend some time with you!  (Don’t worry, he’s just a stuffy!)  Pigeon is coming for a sleepover at your house.  If you bring Pigeon home on Monday, please return him on Wednesday.  If you bring Pigeon home on Wednesday, please return him on Friday.  Pigeon will be bringing two of his books with him, as well as his journal.  Please allow your child to do something with Pigeon and then write about it in Pigeon’s journal.  PLEASE PLEASE take care of pigeon!  He is a hard bird to track down and we want all of our friends to get a chance to have him come over.

And remember… don’t let the pigeon get lost!!
