March 10th- Book Character Dress Up Day!

We have another exciting day coming up!  On March 10th we are having a day where students can dress up like a book character!  There are lots of great ideas available online.  Again, if your child would prefer not to dress up, they can wear their uniform.  Can’t wait to see who comes to school that day!

100 Day recap and Reminders

We had soo much fun yesterday celebrating our 100th day of school.  I hope you enjoyed the pictures I uploaded to Freshgrade yesterday.  The children looked amazing and they really enjoyed presenting their projects to the class.  Well done!

A few reminders:

  • tomorrow is pink shirt day
  • tomorrow a memory verse is due- please check the blog for the latest memory verse
  • students should be bringing their popcorn words back to class on TUESDAYS so we can go over their words and add new words to their rings (this program only works if your kiddos bring their words back and if they are practicing at home with you)

Reminders for next week

Reminders:

Monday February 22 we are celebrating our 100th day of school!  Your child is welcome to dress up in a way that represents what they think they will look like when they are 100. If they don’t want to dress up, they can simply wear their uniforms.  Students should also bring their 100 day project to school.  Please search previous blog posts for more information about that if you need it.

Wednesday February 24 is Pink Shirt Day- we will be talking about being good friends and students can wear pink shirts that day.  If they don’t want to wear a pink shirt, they should wear their uniforms.

Uniform Reminders

Hi Parents,

Please check the Highroad Uniform Policy to be sure your children are wearing the appropriate uniform pieces.  We have been noticing a number of students wearing items, including shoes and socks, that don’t follow the guidelines laid out in our uniform policy.

You can find the policy at the link below:

https://www.highroadacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Uniform-Policy-2020-21.pdf

Thank you so much.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s day is quickly approaching!  Students will be coming home today with class list.  If your child would like to make valentine cards for their classmates, please make sure they include one for each child.  If you are interested in sending along a small treat or candy, please make sure they are individually packaged so that we can follow COVID guidelines.

We will be celebrating on February 10!

100 Day!!

On February 22 (unless we have some snow days before then) we will be celebrating our 100th day of school!  We will be celebrating all day and playing a lot with the number 100.  If your child would like to, they can think about what they think they will look like when they are 100 years old and dress accordingly.  This is always so much fun but there is no pressure to do so.  If you are looking for some ideas, Pinterest is full of them.  If your child doesn’t want to dress up, please send them to school in their uniform.

As part of our 100 Day celebration each student is being encouraged to bring a 1oo day project!  In order to help facilitate your child counting to 100, perhaps encourage them to make 10 groups of 10!  Here are some guidelines for the project:

-must include 100 of a certain object (legos, cheerios, buttons etc).

-the 100 items must be used to create something (100 lego pieces could be used to build something, cheerios could be glued into flower shapes, buttons could be strung into a necklace…)

Projects need to be brought to school on February 22. Each child will be able to present their project and explain to the class what they have made and how they made it.

Popcorn Words- This is Exciting!

Well, we are doing SO well learning our phonograms that we are moving on to adding some popcorn words (sight words) to our tool belt to help us along as readers.  I have a ring with the first 10 words on it that will be coming home this week with your child.  Please consider taking a few minutes each day to practice these words with your child.  As your child demonstrates the ability to read these words, additional words will be added to the ring.  I am amazed at how willing the students are to take risks and try hard things- like READING!  So exciting!

**Please return the ring with the words on it every Tuesday. I will be reviewing words with each child on Tuesdays and adding new words, if we are ready for them, on those days.**
