100th day of school- change

Hi parents,

In order to avoid the conflict of Pink Shirt day and 100 day falling on the same day this year, Mrs Morris and I are changing the numbers a bit so that 100 day can be the day before, Feb 21, rather than the 22nd as previously blogged.  I have amended that blog post to show the new day.

Stay tuned for more information about this exciting day in Kindie!

Valentine’s Day Is Approaching

Hi Parents

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching.  We like to give valentine cards to our classmates.  This is not mandatory, but we do ask that if you are planning to send valentines, you make sure you have one for each student. I will be sending home a class list next week.

In addition, please note we have some students with dietary restrictions and so we respectfully ask that if you would like to send something in addition to a valentine card, could you think of something to send that is not food related? (ie, erasers, pencils, small items from the dollar store, stickers etc).

Thanks so much!

Help Wanted – Valentine’s Day

Hi parents!

I am looking for some parent volunteers who have their criminal record checks done and would be able to come and spend some time with us on Tuesday February 14 between 10:30 and 12 doing some special Valentine’s activities.  Could you let me know if you are willing and able to do that for us so I can plan accordingly?

Uniform Reminders

Hi Parents

Just a reminder that we have a uniform policy at Highroad which includes shoes and socks.  I have noticed a number of students coming to school without uniform-compliant socks.  You can see the full uniform policy on our website.

Also, Knight Wear is only for Fridays, this includes sweaters and hoodies.

Thanks for your help with this.

Popcorn Words

Today we started learning about popcorn words!  What are popcorn words, you might ask?  Well, they are words that POP UP all the time when we are reading and writing.  Today we looked at the word “the” and the word “it.”  During the week as you are reading with your child, encourage them to be a popcorn word detective and look for these words in books and around the house.

New Bible Memory Verses for January and February

Please help us learn the following verses for the next two months:

“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.  No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

1 John 4:11-12

Welcome Wednesday!

We love our families and we love reading!  Beginning next Wednesday, January 11, our classroom doors will open at 8:50 for you to join us for 10-15 minutes of reading.  Younger siblings are welcome to come in as well.  Books will be placed on the tables and in various places around the classroom.  On Wednesday mornings, please come in, find some books and a place to sit with your child (or small group of children) and spend time reading together.
