A Message from Mrs Shinness

Hello Parents!

We are looking forward to our spring concert and this year instead of our usual “Spring Showcase” the Kindergarten – Grade 3 classes will be performing “The Music Machine” on Monday, May 13 at 6:30pm.

We are asking that students wear jeans or uniform pants, sneakers, and a short sleeved t-shirt in a solid colour of your choosing, with no printing on the front (shirts may be turned inside out to hide printing if needed).

On February 5th and 7th, the children will be video recording some dialogue with the Conductor, played by Mrs. Shinness in our studio.  We are asking that all students please bring a solid-colour t-shirt with no printing on the front.  They can change into the t-shirt before heading to the studio.

The following classes will be recorded on the following days:

Feb 5th: Kindergarten (Mrs. Morris), Grade 2 (Mrs. Ellis), Grade 3 (Miss Rast) and Grade 3 (Mrs. VanLeeuwen)

Feb 7th:  Kindergarten (Mrs. Larsson), Grade 1 (Mrs. Folkerts), Grade ½ (Miss Evans)

Please make sure your child brings their shirt on the day they will be recorded.

At the bottom of this message is a link to a copy of the entire musical.  We have adapted the dialogue portion for groups of children instead of the Stevie and Nancy characters. Your children will enjoy hearing their music at home, and it will help them prepare for the performance.

We are also in need of assistance from any willing parents who would love to create some props.  We need 2 large snail costumes.  If you would like to help, please contact Alynne Shinness (ashinness@highroadacademy.com) or Angela Kennedy (akennedy@highroadacademy.com)

Birthdays

Good morning parents,

I just wanted to take a minute to remind you about the policies we have around birthdays at Highroad.  As was mentioned at Kindie Orientation, when your child has a birthday, if they are planning to celebrate, please follow one of the following procedures in order to minimize hurt feelings etc.

  1. Invite the whole class
  2. Invite all the boys (if your child is a boy) or all the girls (if your child is a girl)

Please don’t send invitations to be given out at school unless you are following one of the aforementioned procedures.  If you need to invite a smaller group, that is totally understandable, but we ask that those invitations be sent out discreetly and, if possible, doesn’t happen in front of all the students.

Additionally, if you would like to send in snacks for the class to have on your child’s birthday (totally not necessary), please let me know ahead of time.  We have some food sensitivities and allergies to consider.

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

Help Support our Missions Team

Today we had a special assembly.  The team of people travelling to the Philippines over Spring Break talked to us about what they are going to be doing while they are there, and have invited us to help them.

They will be helping provide clean water to a group of people there.  In order to do that, they need to install a water filter.  We are raising money for the filter.  A $10 donation provides one cup of clean water on our donation bulletin board.  Are you able to help with that?  If you would like to purchase a cup of water, money can be turned in at the office and you will receive a blue clean cup of water to put your name (or your child’s name) on and then replace a dirty cup on the board with your clean cup.

We are also collecting small, hand-sized stuffies so the team can bless the children there with some cuddly toys.  If your kiddo has some extra stuffies kicking around that are in good shape and they are willing to donate, please feel free to send those in.  Stuffies can also be purchased if you would like to provide new ones. Please keep in mind that these are small, hand-sized stuffies.  Thanks!

Empty Toilet Paper Rolls Please!

We are hoping to do a special activity with our buddies next Tuesday.  If you have any empty toilet paper rolls that you could send to school, that would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Forest Friday

This Friday we will be heading out on the bus to spend some time in the forest.  Please ensure your child has warm, dry boots, socks (maybe an extra pair for when we get back) and a warm jacket.  Toques and gloves are also a good idea!

Looking forward to another Fresh Air Friday in the forest!

It’s a Wet Wet World!

Thank you to everyone who has sent their child with snow pants/ muddy buddies/ snow boots etc.  It is SO incredibly wet in the snow on the playground.  Today we had a number of friends (so many that I actually lost count) who came in from outside at first recess with soaking wet socks- the wet had gone right through their boots somehow.  It’s a long, cold day with no socks!  Please, if you can, send an extra pair of socks, or two or three!

Thanks so much!

Volunteers Needed!

We have two really exciting days coming up to celebrate in Kindergarten and we would love to have some extra sets of hands in the classroom to make these days possible- Valentine’s Day, and our 100 day celebration!

I am looking for some volunteers for Valentine’s Day (Wednesday Feb 14 from 10:15-12) and some volunteers for our 100 day celebration which will be on Monday February 26 from 1-2:45.

If you are willing and able to come and spend some time with us in the classroom on one, or both of these special days, please let me know.  Please note- classroom volunteers are required to have a criminal record check on file at the office.

Thank you so much for helping make our days in Kindie extra special!
