Kindie Korner Adventures

Pizza Tuesdays!

Tuesdays are Pizza Days at Highroad!  As a busy mom I love having the option of taking a day off of making lunch and letting my girls have pizza once in a while.  You might like that too!  In order to best serve the primary students, the volunteers that take care of the pizza orders bring the pizza right to the classroom and I distribute the pizza according to my order sheet.

How does your child’s order get onto my order sheet?  It’s easy!  Place your child’s pizza order INSIDE their back and forth folder.  Not in their lunch kit, not in their pocket, not in their backpack- INSIDE THEIR FOLDER!  I cannot emphasize this enough.  Every morning I will look through that folder.  I am guaranteed to see it if it’s there.  I don’t have time to check backpacks and lunchkits for extra orders.

What should this order look like?  A post-it note with a note on it that says “1 piece of cheese pizza” (or pepperoni or hawaiian or meatlovers) is all I need to know what your child is having for lunch.

How do I pay for my pizza?  Pizza is $2 a slice.  There are 2 methods of payment.  Method #1- cash.  You can slip money into the folder with your child’s order (probably in a ziploc is best so it doesn’t get lost).  Method #2- PIZZA CARD!  This is the best!  You can go to the office and purchase a pizza card ( or 2).  Pizza cards are $24 and have 12 slices on them.  When you don’t have $2 at home, this can be a life saver!

Loose Parts!

Today I sent home a little explanation about loose parts, what they are and why I am including them in our learning this year. I am starting by including loose parts as a centre activity and I am pleased already with the creativity of the students! I may send home requests in the future for a variety of objects… chances are, this is why!

More information!

Hi Parents!  I am so sorry if you are feeling bombarded with information.  There is so much to tell you at the beginning of the year and I want to make sure you have what you need.  I am not trying to send too much all at once but I do apologize if you feel like it is a lot!

Freshgrade:

Today I sent home a green paper explaining Freshgrade.  I will use this app as a way to send you photos of your child’s learning and experiences at school.  It is almost like you can be a fly on the wall and get a sneak peek into what they are up to in here!  This is new for me and I am excited to give it a try.  There are a number of ways that Freshgrade can connect you with the classroom, but for now I will use it primarily as a way to send you precious photos of your kindergartner.

Bravo Badges:

During our one hour class on Tuesday, your child received their first Bravo Badge!  These are badges that are collected and hung on a ring in the classroom throughout the year.  These badges are given by the teachers as we make observations, both academic and social, throughout the year.  If your child receives a Bravo Badge during the day, I will do my best to send you a photo on Freshgrade explaining what happened.

September dates:

Sept. 11- Kindies start FULL DAYS of school (school starts at 8:55 and ends at 2:55)

Sept. 14- Individual Photo Day- students need to wear their full dress uniform for their photo (please note, if it is hot the cardigan can be put on just the photo and then removed)

Sept. 18- Parent Welcome Night- 6:30 pm

Sept. 27- Knight Day- the last Wednesday of each month is Knight day.  This is an opportunity for your child to wear casual bottoms and their Knight shirt! (Knight shirts will be provided for all kindie students this year- yay!!)

Thanks for coming!

Thank you all for coming and for helping to make the beginning of our year together so wonderful!  I know as a parent it is not always easy to block off time like that, but having you here was such a blessing.

Some things to know for the week:

Because we still don’t have lockers and we won’t be needing them this week anyway, gym shoes and pillows can come to school next Monday with your child.

Please send your child with a snack and a water bottle for the rest of the week.  No lunch is needed but we will have snack time together.

Please send the folder back each day!  If you have a note for me, that is a great place to put it.  I will be looking in those folders every day at the beginning of our morning together.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me an email!

Thanks so much!

Deana

Perhaps you are wondering?!

I have noticed a few questions cropping up on Highroad Social about our first day of  school next Tuesday.  We are having a Welcome to School Party!  The party will be occurring from 8 am until about 10 am.  There is no need to arrive at 8!  Just be aware that you may want to arrive a bit earlier than you normally would so that you can have a photo taken in the photo booth, visit with the princesses and the pirate that will be here and to enjoy a cup of coffee.  The Kindergarten class will be open for you from 9:15-10:15 and I have organized some “get to know the classroom” activities for you to do with your child.  At the end of our hour, your kindie child is free to go home.  They will not be staying until noon like the rest of the school.

We are so excited to be getting new lockers for the primary wing of the school!  Unfortunately production of the lockers seems to be running behind and so we may not have lockers for the first week of school.  Please help your child find their name on the hall wall and place their belongings against the wall under their name.  We hope to have these beautiful wooden lockers in as soon as possible!

I hope that clarifies some things for you as you look ahead to next week.  I am excited to get the year started and I hope you are too!
