Calling All Old Magazines and Picture Books

Do you have any old magazines or picture books that are falling apart?  We have an art project coming up and I would like to reuse some materials in our project rather than using new paper.  If you have some picture books or magazines that you would be willing to donate to our project could you send them to school this week?

Thank you so much!

Volunteer Opportunity

I am looking for a parent who would be willing to stay on Tuesday mornings to help us with our reading groups.  We run reading groups from about 9:20-10am.  If you have had your criminal record check done and are interested in helping out in this area, please let me know.  If I get more than one parent volunteering, we could set up a rotating schedule.

Thanks!

New Memory Verse due March 2

Since it seems we are struggling to learn our verses (even when they are really short) I thought we would try learning one to music!

Please practice with your child at home.  Your help makes all the difference.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart.  Lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.”

100 Day Reminders

Whoohoo! Tomorrow we celebrate our 100th day of school!  Just a reminder about all the fun things we have going on:

-dressing up (how we think we will look when we are 100)

-100 Day projects (see previous blog post for more information)

-100 Day Trail Mix (see previous blog post for reminders about what you signed up to bring- also I still need M and M’S four our Trail Mix- if you didn’t sign up for something yet, can you help us with that?  We will need 180 of each item in total- no need to count them out for the students, that’s part of their job tomorrow!)

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We have had such a fun Valentine’s Day!

Thank you to all the parents who helped by coming in and sending things. If you sent sprinkles we have them to return to you (and no little hands touched them!) but I don’t know who belongs to which container. You can collect them from the classroom if you would like them back 🙂

Math Mayhem

Tuesday, February 18 at 6:30 is Math Mayhem!  This is an opportunity for you to come to the gym with your children and play some math games.  All of the games are being organized by our high school students and it is always a fun time!  Hope to see you there!

100 Day Project!

As part of our 100 Day celebration each student is being encouraged to bring a 1oo day project!  In order to help facilitate your child counting to 100, perhaps encourage them to make 10 groups of 10!  Here are some guidelines for the project:

-must include 100 of a certain object (legos, cheerios, buttons etc).

-the 100 items must be used to create something (100 lego pieces could be used to build something, cheerios could be glued into flower shapes, buttons could be strung into a necklace…)

Projects need to be brought to school on February 19. Each child will be able to present their project and explain to the class what they have made and how they made it.

100 Day!

We will be celebrating 100 Days in Kindergarten on February 19!  There is going to be so much going on, and it is such a fun day!  Here are some things for you to know:

We will be having 100 Day Stations between 1:25-2:50 and I am looking for 3 parents to help with stations at this time.  If you are interested and able to help, please let me know.

We will  be making 100 Day Trail Mix!  I am looking for people to sign up to send the following:

Each student will need 10 pieces of each item

popcorn  (popped)- Sarah Hackzell

skittles- Amanda Froese

mini marshmallows- Tabitha

pretzel sticks- Brittany V

Fruit loops- Christina Lueck

chocolate chips- Ashley Larsson

gummy bears- Ashley Rempel

chex cereal- Debora Rempel

goldfish crackers- Lidia

m and m’s- Tara

Please reply and comment on this blog post, or send me an email if you are able to provide one of these items.

100 Day is another fun opportunity to dress up!  100 is such a grand number and we want to celebrate by imagining all the things we might be able to do by the time we are 100.  We also think it would be fun to dress like we think we might look when we are 100.  Students are invited to dress out of uniform, and come to school dressed as if they are 100.  Do they think they will have glasses?  Will their hair be long or short?  What will they wear when they are 100?  We always have a great time together celebrating this milestone and exploring the number 100!!
