Kindie Korner Adventures

Week 1 Done!

And just like that our first week is over.  I am so proud of each student and parent for the amazing way you have all transitioned from home to Kindergarten this year.  Every morning I have asked the children how they feel about being here and I have yet to see a thumbs down!  There is so much to learn about how school works I am sure it is overwhelming and tiring for them (it is for me!)  Please be patient with your little one if they are having after school meltdowns. It is very common.  They work so hard at listening and keeping things together here at school and you are their safe place.  Keep loving on them and be patient with yourself too.  It’s been quite a year, hasn’t it?

A few things for you to note on your calendar:

Friday, September 18- Individual Photo Day (NOT KNIGHT DAY)- Children will need to wear their uniforms that day.  If your child is part time, and you would like school photos, you are welcome to bring your child for photos at the beginning of the day (8:45).  Please contact the office if you need more information about where to go when you come for those.  If that day doesn’t work for you, another opportunity will be available on October 15 for retakes which I also realize is a Thursday.  The photo dates are beyond my control.  I am so sorry they aren’t on a Monday-Wednesday for you.

Monday, September 28 is a Professional Development Day – there are no classes that day for students.

Wednesday, September 30- Orange Shirt Day– students are invited to wear orange shirts as we do some age-appropriate learning around that topic.

Also, just a reminder that next week we are continuing with noon dismissal for Kindergarten students.  Thank you for being prompt for pick ups!

Freshgrade

Wow!  We made it through our first morning!  No one cried, no one got lost, and everyone brought their smile to school!  Great job parents and kindies!

Thank you so much for the amazing job you did dropping your children off this morning as well as picking up at the end of our day.  It was so nice to see you all there and ready to receive your little ones at the end of our time together.  It is so reassuring for them to see you here when we walk out.

I just wanted to let you know that the Kindergarten picture taking has begun and I have created an online portfolio for each of your children through a program called Freshgrade.  I have invited each of you to view your child’s portfolio via an email that should be sent to you this afternoon.  Please keep an eye out for it 🙂  It is a great way for you to see what we have been doing in class together.

A Lovely Introduction

It was so nice to meet you all this morning to spend a bit of time with you today.  I am looking forward to getting to know your child more in the coming days and weeks.  Here are some things to note in regards to the rest of the week:

Drop off: reminder that we are trying to decrease crowding in the hallway and have divided the class list into two groups.  Group One (last names A-O) are to arrive at 8:50, Group Two (last names P-Z) are to arrive at 8:55.  Please evaluate the busyness of the hallway and decide if you have space to help your child unpack their backpack or if it would be better to bring the backpack into the classroom.  If the hallway is busy and your child brings their backpack in, please know we will help them when things in the hallway calm down.

Pick up:  We will be waiting for you outside at noon near the main entrance to the school.  Please be as prompt as possible.

Knight Shirts: Your child will be coming home tomorrow with a Knight shirt. The school has decided that every Friday this year will be Knight day.  This is an opportunity for your child to wear their Knight shirt and casual bottoms.

Back and Forth Folders: Your child will also be coming home with a folder that is to go back and forth every day between home and school.  Please look in it every day.  Your child will have something for you to fill out and return tomorrow.

Your child will need a snack and a water bottle for tomorrow.  Pillows won’t be used until we begin full days, but you may wish to send it and leave it at school before we are using them.  We will be using our gym shoes next week.

I think that’s all I needed to remind you of, or let you know about.  Please feel free to email me if you have any further questions!  It’s going to be a great year!

Welcome to Kindie 2020!

Welcome to Kindergarten at Highroad Academy for the 2020/2021 school year.  I am so excited to get to know each of your precious children and work together with you to see your child grow socially, emotionally, academically, and spiritually this year. It was wonderful to meet many of you this past Wednesday at our Kindie Orientation meetings.  If you weren’t able to attend, please check your email for the orientation information I emailed you.  If you didn’t get that email, please email me at dlarsson@highroadacademy.com or comment on this blog post so we can get that information to you.

I know there has been A LOT of information to absorb, both at a Kindie level, as well as a school wide level, especially because we are working around some different regulations due to COVID.  Thank you for taking the time to read all of the info coming your way.  I will recap here for you what Kindergarten will look like for us on Sept 8th as well as remind you of our procedures for the first 2 weeks of school.

Sept 8- first “day” of school:

Last week Mrs Teschke had you sign up for a time to come into the Kindergarten room with your child on Sept 8.  During this 45 minute visit you will spend some time exploring our Kindergarten room with your child, participating in the activities described on a sheet of paper that I will give you when you arrive.  Please have your child dressed in their uniform.  They will not need a snack or lunch or backpack as they will only be here for a short time.  Here is the sign up schedule:

9:00 am- Christian, Joseph, Aiydah, Elizabeth, Amelia, Felicity

10:00 am- Madison, Molly, Dax, Ethan, Chase

11:00 am- Cobin, Jaxon, Hugo, Liza, Drew

Please arrive as close to your scheduled time as possible.  Remember that our primary entrance to the school is through the main doors. I am so excited to meet all of you!

Sept 9-18- half days of school:

Just a reminder that for Sept 9-18 we will be running half days of Kindergarten.  Pick up will be at 12 noon.  Your child will be waiting for you in line outside the school near the bike rack at the front door.  For these half days your child will need a snack and a water bottle but not a lunch.  They will also need their backpacks and gym shoes. If your child is registered for part time kindie they will come Monday to Wednesday, and if your child is registered for full time kindie they will come Monday to Friday.

I think that’s it for now!  Have a great long weekend and see you all soon!
